Whether you’d like an introduction to the area, an alternative to attractions you’ve already seen or an exciting rainy day option, Monterey Movie Tours® is your ticket to a star-studded getaway! This fascinating two-tours-in-one outing features both magnificent landscapes and blockbuster scenes from some 200 movies filmed across the Monterey Peninsula.

Winding through Monterey, Pacific Grove and Carmel, this scenic tour also stops along the stunning 17-MILE DRIVE® in Pebble Beach. The three-hour adventure takes place aboard our multimedia Theater-On-Wheels® – a customized luxury motor coach with high-back seats, overhead video screens and personal headsets. As you glide past sites made famous on the big screen, you’ll hear behind-the-scenes stories of Hollywood glamour.

This is a movie tour, and yet so much more – in fact, it’s the ONLY daily guided tour of the Monterey Peninsula! And, Monterey Movie Tours® enhances the standard sightseeing experience with film clips showcasing this celebrated region in times past. Peek into The Lodge at Pebble Beach circa 1956, when Doris Day runs through the entry in the suspense drama, “Julie.” Marvel at the fullness of the Lone Cypress Tree as Lana Turner passes by the landmark in “Mr. Imperium.” Experience the sights and sounds that inspired John Steinbeck himself while watching Marilyn Monroe journey along Cannery Row in “Clash by Night.”

Tour Details:

This spectacularly fun land tour begins in downtown Monterey where one of our most historic sites, Colton Hall, has stood in as a girls boarding school in the movie A Summer Place and a court house in the movie The Big Bounce. Our Fisherman's Wharf area has been used for scenes in several movies including I Cover the Waterfront, Play Misty for Me, The Candidate and P.K. & the Kid.

Travel through historic Cannery Row that has been the setting for many movies over the years including Clash by Night starring Marilyn Monroe and Barbara Stanwyck, and a few scenes in the movie, you guessed it, Cannery Row! Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was filmed at our world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium where Humpback whales where held in captivity.... no, just kidding here! Only Hollywood and the magic of special effects can make that happen!

Lookout onto Monterey Bay where sailing scenes were filmed in the movies Captains Courageous and Mutiny on the Bounty. And, least we forget one of our most memorable movies... Monster from the Ocean Floor (once you've seen this monster you'll see why it should have been left on the cutting room floor)!

View the City of Pacific Grove and its majestic coastline that was turned into the fictitious town of "Cypress Grove" in the movie Turner & Hooch. The resort seen in A Summer Place is also located in this picturesque coastal community.

Things really get busy on 17-MILE DRIVE® in Pebble Beach. The magnificent beauty of this coastline has been used in many action driving scenes in such movies as My Favorite Brunette, Julie, Chandler, The Big Bounce, The Parent Trap, My Blood Runs Cold, Susan Slade and many more! Several scenes have been filmed in and around homes situated along this unbelievably scenic drive.

The Lodge at Pebble Beach and the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links have been the location for memorable scenes in such movies as National Velvet, Julie, Follow the Sun, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir and In Love and War.

Travel through the charming little hamlet of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The downtown and residential areas of this quaint little resort community has been used for scenes in It Seems Like Old Times, The Lady Says No, A Summer Place, Play Misty for Me and others!

Watch the actual scenes where they were originally filmed on overhead monitors inside our luxury high-back seat tour coach.

Tour Duration and Stops:

The tour is approximately three hours in length, depending on traffic conditions. All three of our stops are made on 17-MILE DRIVE® in Pebble Beach.

Our first stop is at Bird Rock, the largest rock just offshore on the Monterey Peninsula and a resting place for many of our wonderful marine mammals including Harbor Seals, Sea Lions and our precious little Sea Otters. A variety of birds including Black Brandt Cormorants and Pelicans can usually be spotted on the rock or frolicking in the waters just offshore. Love scenes between Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue in the movie "A Summer Place" took place on the beach in front of the rock.

Our second stop is at the Lone Cypress Tree, one of the most treasured landmarks along California's coastline. This magnificent tree is one of the most photographed in the world and is more than 260 years old. This tree has been used as a scenic backdrop in several movies filmed on the Monterey Peninsula.

Our third stop is at the world-renowned Lodge at Pebble Beach, originally built in 1919. You'll be able to walk out onto the back deck of the Lodge to view one of the greatest scenic settings in the world, the 18th hole of the famous Pebble Beach Golf Links. Several movie scenes have been filmed at the Lodge and on the 18th hole of this great golf course.
